Jo Anne was born October 30, 1934 in Texon, Texas to Burnell Odell and Belle (Ewing) Shankle.  She lived a wonderful life of caregiving and service to others.  Anne was active in her community working for numerous years as a store clerk, and also as a substitute school teacher.  She also served on the board for the Hospice Hand of West Texas for many, many years.  Jo Anne was the very definition of the word, kindness.  She always dedicated herself to caring for others, taking care of just everybody.  She was always a great example to her family and everyone around her.  You could always count on receiving candy when you came to visit Anne.  Another huge part of Jo Anne’s life was her church.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockney for over 60 years, even teaching Sunday school for at least 20 of those years.  Anne loved spending time with her family, they were the light of her life.

Jo Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Burnell and Belle Shankle; her first husband, Carl Lee, Jr.; and her second husband, Thomas Messer.
