FLOYDADA, TX – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Floyd County Office, is offering an accredited Food Handlers Course to help food service employees comply with the updated Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER). The course, Food Safety: It’s In Your Hands, is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Extension office, located at 122 E. California Street, Floydada.

The TFER revision, effective since October 11, 2015, mandates that all food employees complete an accredited food handlers training program within 60 days of employment. This requirement, effective since September 16, 2016, ensures food safety standards are met across the state.

The 1-2 hour course covers essential food safety practices, including good personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, and time and temperature abuse. Successful completion provides participants with a two-year certification, valid anywhere in Texas.

Registration Details:

Cost: $20.00 per person (must be paid in full before the course begins)

Pre-registration: Call the Extension office at 806-983-4912

In-person registration: Available on the day of the course

For individuals requiring auxiliary aid services or accommodations, please contact the office at least five working days prior to the event.

Another session is scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 PM. For more information, contact Natalie Snowden at the Floyd County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Office at 806-983-4912.
