LOCKNEY, TX – During the January 21, 2025, Lockney City Council meeting, a significant step was taken toward the creation of a much-needed animal shelter. The Council moved forward with plans to break ground on the new City of Lockney Animal Shelter.

In a move to support the project, the Council accepted a generous $40,000 grant from the Lockney Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), which will go toward the construction costs. This funding was further ratified in a decision by the LEDC Board of Directors, aligning with the terms outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Lockney and Kellison Roofing and Construction, LLC.

The total cost of the shelter construction is estimated at $71,377.09. This new facility is expected to have a lasting impact on the community, providing much-needed resources for local animals and supporting Lockney’s ongoing growth.

This marks an exciting development for both the city and its residents, who can look forward to the shelter’s construction and eventual completion. The groundbreaking is a positive step in the city’s commitment to improving the well-being of both its animals and community.
