Floydada Powerlifting Off to a Strong Start

FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada powerlifting team has had a strong start to the season, competing in the Plainview, Frenship, and Ralls meets with several lifters earning top finishes.

At the Plainview meet, Jakob Cuellar took 1st place in the 275-pound division, while Alyanna Lopez and Clarissa Garcia secured 3rd place finishes in the 132s and SHW divisions, respectively; other notable performances included Luis Lopez (7th, 132s), Marty Riojas (7th, 198s), Exodus Garcia (10th, 198s), Isabel Johnston (10th, 123s), Rilynn Hinsely (12th, 123s), Jada Deochoa (4th, 132s), and Kirsten Pyle (7th, 148s).

At Frenship, the boys placed 6th overall, led by Leo Lopez’s 2nd place finish in the 123s, AJ Rodriguez placing 3rd in the 181s, and Cuellar winning the 275s again; Luis Lopez (7th, 132s), Marty Riojas (8th, 198s), and Exodus Garcia (10th, 198s) also competed well, while on the girls’ side, Johnston (5th, 123s) and Lopez (3rd, 132s) earned solid placements.

The Ralls meet was the team’s most successful, with the boys taking 1st overall thanks to strong performances by Leo Mendoza (1st, 132s), Luis Lopez (2nd, 132s), Rodriguez (2nd, 181s), Riojas (1st, 198s), and Cuellar (1st, 275s). The girls also saw impressive results, with Johnston (3rd, 123s), Lopez (3rd, 132s), Deochoa (4th, 132s), Pyle (3rd, 148s), and Garcia (1st, 242+) all finishing in the top spots. Following these performances, Garcia, Mendoza, and Cuellar have officially qualified for Regionals, positioning Floydada for even greater success in the postseason.
