LOCKNEY, TX – On December 16, 2024, the Lockney FFA Chapter hosted the Plainview District FFA Banquet, a significant annual event where the sitting District President traditionally serves as the host. After conducting thorough research with Lockney ISD and consulting retired Agricultural Science teacher Mr. Ted Young, we could not identify a previous instance where Lockney had hosted the banquet or held the position of District President. However, Lockney FFA has proudly had several District officers over the years, a testament to the chapter’s longstanding involvement and influence within the FFA organization.

The banquet took place at the Floyd County Friends Unity Center, where members from various schools across the district gathered. Schools represented included Lockney, Floydada, Plainview, Tulia, Happy, Cotton Center, Spring Lake Earth, Nazareth, Abernathy, and Hale Center—all part of Area 1. Students in official FFA attire represented each school, showcasing the organization’s pride and professionalism.

The evening began with a delicious catered meal provided by Weekend’s BBQ, which all students in attendance enjoyed. Special seating was designated for the voting delegates, who were separated from the rest of the attendees. These delegates, selected from each school, were assigned a specific number of votes based on their school’s FFA enrollment and played a crucial role in electing the 2025-2026 District Officers.

Following the meal, candidates for the District office delivered their campaign speeches, outlining their visions for the future of the district and the FFA organization. From Floyd County, Maddison Plye from Floydada FFA and Nick Cervantes from Lockney FFA were both elected to the 2025-2026 officer team, marking an exciting achievement for both chapters.

A highlight of the evening was the talent competition, in which three schools participated, showcasing the district’s diverse talents. Lockney FFA was proud to contribute to this segment with performances by Daniel Alvarado, Josiah Cuellar, and Darin Jimenez, who enthusiastically and skillfully represented the chapter.

The evening also served as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of Lockney’s current Agriculture Science instructors, Mr. Froilan Beltran, Ms. Meredith Tannahill, and Mr. Brent Knox, whose support and guidance help shape the future leaders of the FFA.

Overall, the event was a resounding success. It brought together students, teachers, and community members to celebrate FFA’s role in shaping the next generation of agricultural leaders.
