ORLANDO, FL – The Lockney Longhorn Mascot Loki is headed to the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl in Orlando Florida.

Below is a note from Miannette Rubio:

“Hey Floyd County! My name is Miannette Rubio, and I am currently a senior at Lockney High. I have been my school’s mascot for the past 6 years and let me tell you, it’s been an absolute blast. As I reach the end of my mascot journey, I couldn’t imagine a better ending to my story with Loki the Longhorn! This past summer during cheer camp, I was given the opportunity to try out and become an All American Mascot. Then, over a three day span I was asked to submit a skit and expected to perform that skit in front of judges. After a couple of weeks, I was sent a letter in the mail informing me of my opportunity to perform during the halftime of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. The Citrus Bowl is an annual college football bowl game that is held in Orlando Florida. There were many steps and payments that came with this process, but with the help of my family, school, and community, I was able to achieve it all! My parents and brother will be joining me on this awesome experience. It means the absolute world to me to be able to have my family by my side as I accomplish this. This opportunity doesn’t only allow me to represent myself and family, but my community as well! Coming from a small town, recognition like this doesn’t always come around. So you can imagine the words of encouragement I have received from my community these past few months! I will forever be grateful to be a part of this community! See you guys in Orlando, Florida!”

The Cheez-It Citrus Bowl is January 1 in a battle between #15 South Carolina and #20 Illinois.
