One Dead, Two Hospitalized Following Collision in Motley County

MATADOR, TX – One Floyd County resident died in an early morning accident near Matador.

73-year-old Lino Garcia of Floydada was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle accident five miles west of Matador on U.S. 62.

According to a Texas DPS report, a 2023 Dodge Charger driven by 80-year-old Roger Mason of Lake Village, AR, was traveling east on US 62 on the wrong side of the road when it collided with Garcia’s westbound 2000 Ford Taurus at 12:28 a.m. Thursday morning.

Mason and a passenger in the other vehicle, 72-year-old Margarita Garcia of Floydada, were both transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with incapacitating injuries.

All three victims were wearing seatbelts, and the investigation is ongoing.
