LOCKNEY, TX – The Floyd County Record continues to spotlight the athletes that represent our communities, including Lockney’s junior Dyllan Thiebaud.

Dyllan is the starting quarterback and safety for the Lockney Longhorns.

As the Quarterback, what are the things that you are looking at as the “facilitator”?

I’m looking at the running backs and receivers, making sure they know what they are doing and are running it right. Even in practice, we are working on communication. I let the lineman take care of the line, and I will focus on the skill guys.

The offseason was a big focus for you guys. What improvements were made that you see in action?

With our summer workouts, speed development was a really big key to improvement; everyone got stronger, and for me, playing baseball in the summer helped my arm strength as well as my footwork.

How important is it for everyone to buy into the culture that you guys have created this season?

It’s important because the past few weeks have shown our success, and I think that everyone is slowly starting to buy into it and is listening to each other’s advice, and the results are showing for themselves.

What does the bond between teammates do for the team?

We are always there for one another, giving a high five, telling us that we are good, and going to get the next one. Some of us have issues off the field, but you couldn’t even tell because we have that bond, and when it’s time to flip the switch, we flip the switch and play together.

Do you have someone that you see as a mentor?

My dad is for sure my role model; he’s the AD here, and no matter what, I feel like he is here for me and coaches me in so many areas. He’s hard on me on the field, but at the end of the day, I know he loves me.

What is the team’s goal as district play begins this week?

We are gold ball chasin’. These past five games are behind us, and now it’s time for us to execute everything we have worked on. We need to set the tone for the district, starting with Crosbyton. We can’t look ahead to the end of the schedule; we have to take it one week at a time. No looking forward or behind; we just have to keep on chugging along.
