LUBBOCK, TX – For more than a quarter century, fans of Texas high school football have been able to get scores and highlights from other games through the West Texas Friday Night Scoreboard Show.

Originally developed and produced in the studios of KFLP in downtown Floydada 27 years ago, the show has grown exponentially, especially over the past ten years, through the guidance of Steven Orr, who serves as both a host and Director of Affiliations. He is joined every Friday night by Petersburg native Mark Finkner, who is also the play-by-play voice of the Texas Tech Lady Raiders, in providing much more than just scores.

In 2019, the show relocated to Paramount Broadcasting Corp’s studios in Lubbock to find more help for the behind-the-scenes work – including gathering scores, recording reports, and posting on social media channels – and due to faster and more reliable internet (the show is delivered live every Friday night for 12 weeks to radio stations across Texas via the internet using Real Time Protocol).

Though primarily a radio show, heard on 50 radio stations west of I-35 and north of I-10, the need to develop a video component prompted a studio overhaul.

Orr worked with Floyd County’s Chase Hammonds (Double N Metal Works) to design and build the custom set. The new look, along with a 1/2″ acrylic countertop, allows the hosts to work from a broadcast-quality desk that is illuminated by eight LED stage lights and six custom flood lamps, all in front of a custom-designed background.

The video component appeared for the first time in 2021, but it has taken two more years of redesign, equipment upgrades, and fresh talent to bring the new show to life.

You can listen to the West Texas Friday Night Scoreboard Show locally in Floyd County beginning at 9:30 p.m. on 106.1FM KFLP or online at www.FridayNightScores.com.
