LOCKNEY, TX – As the 2023 football season approaches, the Lockney Longhorns have their sights set and look ahead to the new season.
Athletic Director and Head Coach Jonathan Thiebaud will be entering his second year as head coach for the Longhorns.
Thiebaud was previously the defensive coordinator for Lockney in his first year with the program and, before then, was at Stanton for seven years as the DC.
Last season, the Longhorn football team went 2-8 on the season and was 1-4 in district play.
“We have been doing our strength and conditioning this summer, but we have added in some different things on the running side, and we have seen some pretty good results already.”
With several close games in the Longhorns football season last year, Coach Thiebaud says, “We are working on our mental toughness to help turn those close games that were decided late in the game into wins. Last year we had 15 first year varsity guys that had all been playing JV football the previous season, and so all of us were learning together.”
Thiebaud said that the athletic department is going to be “stronger and faster. Weight room for everybody; there is not a sport that you can’t be stronger and faster in. We want explosiveness across the board and are trying to get that through all programs.”
The Longhorns will have their first varsity scrimmage on August 11th in Lockney against Sanford-Fritch.
