FLOYDADA, TX – Five of the eight calls during June for the Floydada Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) came in the final week of the month.
On June 21, 2023, calls went out for assistance in neighboring Motley County, where the VFD was among the first of the first responders to arrive on the scene of a deadly tornado in Matador.
Despite rains throughout the past few months, volunteers continue to battle grass fires across the county.
This is the June 2023 Fire Report;
1. 6/15/2023 4:57 PM CR130 & CR241 near Cedar Hill Units responded to a mutual aid call from the Lockney Fire Department to assist with a grass fire near Cedar Hill.
2. 6/20/2023 9:30 PM 213 W. California Trash dumpster fire
3. 6/21/2023 8:08 PM Matador Tornado
4. 6/23/2023 7:16 PM N207 & CR 170 Grass fire caused by lightning.
5. 6/23/2023 7:50 PM N70 Grass fire caused by lightning.
6. 6/24/2023 2:27 PM Flomont Mutual Aid rescue.  Canceled.
7. 6/27/2023 3:55 PM 1/2 mile N of the canyon on US62/70 Small grass fire along the road side.
8. 6/29/2023 7:40 PM 714 W. California BBQ cooking set off the smoke alarm at a residence.
