LUBBOCK, TX – Despite millions in grants and loans, many rural areas suffer from inadequate high-speed internet access, also known as “The Digital Divide.”
The Texas Broadband Development Office (BDO) is hosting regional community meetings throughout Texas to receive input on access to the Internet.
The Texas BDO will take information from the meetings to shape opportunities for residents to access, afford and use the Internet in several ways, including education, health, economic opportunities, and quality of life for communities.
Officials will meet with the public at Citizens Tower in Lubbock on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, beginning at 1:00 pm.
During the meeting, there will be a discussion regarding Texas’ broadband work and planning process and breakout group discussions about barriers and solutions to digital opportunity.
This meeting is part of developing the Texas Digital Opportunity Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for achieving reliable and affordable broadband, high-quality device access, digital skills training, and cybersecurity awareness to expand digital opportunities for all Texans.
