How much money do you have in your pocket right now, and would you give it all to a stranger just walking by, with no questions asked?

I saw Mary walking in a park with a sign on her backpack that said “Poetry For You” and watched as she spoke words to a couple and then tried to engage a group of boys and their father casually – they declined and walked away.

From a park bench, I approached her with $6 as a token of appreciation for her work ethic; she then asked me to give her a word that brings me happiness; I replied, Faith.

After weaving a bible verse from the Old Testament about faith into a poem for me, I handed her a rolled-up $100 that she immediately recognized – Mary broke down and, while sobbing, thanked me repeatedly – I said it’s from your Father.

James 2:26 (NASB) reminds us, “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”

She explained that she walked in faith every day, knowing that the Lord would provide for her, and never questioned where or how it would happen; Mary just had faith.

With just $1 in my pocket that day, I walked away from the park far richer than when I had arrived.
