CANYON, TX – Athletes from Floyd County competed in eight final events over the weekend at the UIL Class 2A Region I Track and Field Championships at West Texas A&M University.
Floydada’s Mile Relay (4x400m Relay) placed fifth in the finals with a time of 3:31.94. The team was led by seniors Izaih Alvarado and Saul Reyes, including junior Hagen Hinsley and sophomore Jonathan Pena.
Lady Wind sophomore Kirsten Pyle placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 8-00.00, while senior Natalie Contreras finished her high school track career with a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter Hurdles with a personal best of 50.86.
Alvarado would also compete in the 400-meter sprint, finishing eighth with a time of 53.74, and junior Jacinto Santos finished 13th in the Long Jump (19-09.00).
For Lockney, senior Annalicia Hernandez threw the discus 93-06 and finished 12th at the meet.
Floydada’s Jayson Cooper was a competitor in the Triple Jump, and Lockney’s Haven Walker participated in the Shot Put.
