FLOYD COUNTY, TX – Thunder and lightning moved through the region on Sunday and answered some prayers with the first significant moisture of the year.
While the rain event was not widespread, some areas received over one inch of moisture – including Wolfforth (1.89″), Spur (1.25″), and Southwest Lubbock (1.22″).
According to the Texas Tech Mesonet, Floydada received .45″ in the rain gauge north of the city limits, Silverton collected .2″, and the reporting station near South Plains recorded just .06″.
Despite the rain, the entire region remains in severe or extreme drought and suffers from the worst drought this century.
