LOCKNEY, TX – Like most other small towns, when one business closes, all that is left is a skeleton of what once was.
The desire to ensure that didn’t happen in Floyd County led to local investors purchasing Lockney Coop Gin.
“We had some people who were interested in purchasing a true Loomis cotton gin,” explains new President and General Manager Clay Lowrance, “and I’m thinking they’re about to come in here and gut it, and we’ll have a shell of a building left.”
So as of April 1, 2023, the gin and farm store on the west side of town is now known as County Wide Cotton Gin and also includes the fuel store on U.S. 70 in Lockney.
Lowrance is no stranger to Floyd County, having spent 18 years with the local John Deere dealership and 15 years as a ginner – including the past five years at the gin he now co-owns.
Lowrance isn’t alone on this journey as Debbie Harrison, who has over 25 years at the gin, will continue as office manager.
“I’m not trying to gin everybody’s cotton in the county; we just want enough to pay our bills” and to give back to the community.
