FLOYD COUNTY, TX – Hunting season opens on Saturday for a familiar bird in the area that migrates during the fall from the Dakotas and Nebraska south to New Mexico and Texas: the Sandhill Crane.
Though hunting of the crane is banned in Nebraska, hunters in Texas may hunt the bird through January 29, 2023, with a daily bag limit of three and a possession limit of nine.
If you do decide to participate this season, Texas Parks and Wildlife Service reminds you that in addition to having a valid hunting license and proof of identification, hunters will need a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement, Federal Sandhill Crane Permit, Federal Duck Stamp & HIP Certification.
There is only one location in Floyd County to obtain the hunting license and required permits, Payne Family Pharmacy in Floydada.
