FLOYD COUNTY, TX – As candidates in federal elections work to get a new job or keep their existing job in Congress, more than $5.4 million has been spent in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains during the current election cycle.
Floyd County elects two members to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC, with 41 percent of the county (2,655 residents) voting in a Panhandle district and 59 percent of the county (3,791 residents) voting in a South Plains district.
The 13th Congressional District is currently occupied by Republican Ronny Jackson (Amarillo), while the 19th District seat is also held by a Republican, Jodey Arrington (Lubbock). Both are overwhelming favorites to return to Capitol Hill following the November 8th General Election.
According to OpenSecrets.org, Jackson has raised more than $4.4 million and spent $3.7 million in this current election cycle, with the Democratic challenger, Kathleen Brown, raising $167,459 and spending $129,565.
For the 19th District, Arrington has raised almost $1.9 million and spent more than $1.5 million compared to Independent challenger Nathan Lewis who has raised $2,432 raised and spent $1,676.
Of interest, neither incumbent has invested any personal funds (candidate self-financing), while the challengers, especially Lewis, have made personal contributions: he is personally responsible for funding 83 percent of his campaign.
Early voting begins in Floyd County on Monday, October 24, 2022.
