Alicia Luna (Lockney)

Alicia Luna, 78, of Lockney, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022, in Plainview, Texas. Alicia was born in Hondo, Texas, on June 29, 1944, to Pascual Gonzales and Lelis Lara. She was raised by her grandparents, Tomasa Garza and Petronilo Lara.

She married the love of her life, Avaristo Luna, from Hondo, Texas, on April 29, 1966. They moved to Lockney, Texas, in the summer of 1975, and it became their home.

Alicia was a stay-at-home mom that loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and anyone who stopped by to visit. She loved traveling on family vacations and especially loved visiting different casinos. Her main hobby was helping and serving other people.

Alicia volunteered at the Salvation Army. She ran the store in Lockney for over forty years until she had to retire this year due to health reasons. She wanted to give back to the ministry that helped her and her family during a hard time. As a volunteer at the Salvation Army, she made Christmas baskets for families, senior citizens and the homebound of Floyd County, and transients passing through. She would take donated clothes and resale them to use the proceeds to help with food, blankets, coats, utility bills, and vouchers for gas. Even during the Covid shutdown, people knew they could show up at the house, and Alicia would ensure they received the needed help.

She was an amazing, strong, beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She had a servant’s heart for her family, church, and friends. She has left an inspiring legacy for her children and the Lockney Community. Many will miss her dearly, but she will never be forgotten.

Alicia is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Tomasa Garza and Petronilo Lara, and her daughter Paulina Guerra.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Avaristo Luna of Lockney, Texas, son, Israel Guerra (Kerry) of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter, Teresa Gonzales of Lockney, Texas, daughter, Soyla Reyna of Kerrville, Texas, son, Ignacio Luna (Ismelda) of Lubbock, Texas, daughter, Esmeralda Sanchez (David) of Lockney, Texas, son, Abel Luna of Lockney, Texas.
