RALLS – J.R. Compton was a happy man Saturday morning, telling the Record his Whirlwinds were solid on offense, defense and special teams Friday night. “It’s good to start off the season with all three phases firing well.”
And those Whirlwinds indeed came out with a big win in their 34-6 victory over the Ralls Jackrabbits.
Quarterback Ty Henderson and Wide Receiver Saul Reyes connected for a 16-yard touchdown early in the game while Running Backs Izaiah Alvarado and Andres Mendoza each had two touchdowns on the night. Lone Star Varsity preseason Super Team member Leo Mendoza was four for five on the night with his extra points.
The Whirlwinds dominated with 358 total yards of offense, with Alvarado and Mendoza combining for 177 of those yards.
Up next for the Winds, the 100th playing of the Floyd County Championship against Lockney. The game will also be Floydada’s home opener at Charles Tyer Stadium.
