ALPINE, Tex. – What a week Erin Trevino of Floydada has enjoyed – being named “Player of the Year” to the Lubbock A-J’s Softball Super Team on Sunday, and then on Wednesday releasing her verbal commitment to play collegiate softball for the Sul Ross State University Lobos.

She will have a joint signing on July 11 with Lady Winds teammate Clarissa Delafuente, who is committed to Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma.

In a statement from Dr. Gilbert Trevino, Erin’s father, “Erin made her decision after visiting Sul Ross State in Alpine on June 13. Erin had multiple offers from other colleges, but she felt that coach Troy Canaba’s program at Sul Ross fit her the best.”

Canaba has an interesting coaching arrangement at Sul Ross of being the head coach for both softball and volleyball according to the Sul Ross athletic website. He is a SRSU graduate and played basketball for the Lobos. Canaba as been the Lobos softball coach since 2015, and added the volleyball head job in 2017.

Trevino had a phenomenal career at Floydada Collegiate High School being the Class Valedictorian for 2022, the District 3-2A Most Valuable Player in softball, A-J Player of the Year on the South Plains Super Team for all classifications, District 3-2A Defensive MVP in basketball, and a Texas Sportswriter Association All-State player in 2021 (2022 team has not been announced). Her pitching numbers where spectacular with 60-wins, 5-no hitters, 22-shutouts, double-digit one hitters, and 530 career strikeouts. Trevino won 30 games in the circle as a senior and 25 in junior season.

The college commitment list of the 2022 Lady Winds has now increased to four players – pitcher Erin Trevino to Sul Ross State University; catcher Marissa Obregon to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin; second baseman Kailee Sanchez to Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger, Texas; and Clarissa Delafuente to Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma.
