FLOYDADA – The Floydada Collegiate High School band has a new assistant band director. Director of Bands Franklin Piland announced this week the school had hired Kathryn Grice.
The following was posted to the band’s social media this week:
Please welcome Maestra Kathryn Grice to the Whirlwind Family!
Kathryn Grice is the Assistant Director of Bands at Floydada CISD. She originates from Water Valley, TX where she was a leading member of her high school band, a two-time ATSSB All-State qualifier and UIL Soloist on flute, and drum major. She went on to earn her BA in Music Education from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX where her love of music led her to perform in a variety of ensembles, including the university band in which she served twice as flute section leader, the Winds of Triumph in which she performed as principal flutist, and several pit ensembles and choir accompaniments.
Kathryn was honored to be of service to the HPU band as a member of the Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, in which she served as Joint Officer, Vice President, President, Chaplain, and Convention Coordinator over the span of her three-year membership.
After graduating in 2019, she took her first position as Assistant Band Director at Anson ISD where she greatly enjoyed getting to know and support growing young musicians and instill a greater love of music in her students. Kathryn is now working towards her MA in Music Education from Liberty University, which she expects to complete in 2023.
When she’s not studying, practicing, or facilitating music, Kathryn enjoys a variety of other arts like painting as well as hiking and being outdoors. She enjoys life in Floydada with her much-loved dogs, Spike and Finley.
We cannot wait to see all the amazing things Ms. Grice will cultivate in our band programs. Go Whirlwinds!!!
