CANYON – It has been close to two decades since Floydada has had a boys golf team play in the Region 1-2A Golf Tournament. The Whirlwinds foursome are all new at golf and gave it their best on the challenging Palo Duro Creek Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Floydada’s team consisted of Trace Glasscock, Brett Brittian, Reese Hinsley and Logan Smith. Many Floydada golf enthusiasts were glad to have a Whirlwind golf team once again.
Vega won the team title with two rounds of 693, followed by New Home in second place at 746,
and Forsan claimed third with a 747. Those teams will advance to the 2A State Tourney at the Lions Muncipal Golf Course in Austin on May 9-10.
Owen Morris of New Home was the golf medalist with rounds of 77-73 for a 150 total. Ethan Boggs of Morton was in second place with a 156, Kylan Richardson of Vega took third with a 159, Caleb Weinette of Wellington was fourth at 160, and Hayden McClaran of Farwell finished fifth with a 162. Boggs, Weinette and McClaran qualified for State as individuals.
