RALLS – The Floydada Lady Winds took care of business on Tuesday with a convincing 19-3 win over the Ralls Lady Jackrabbits at Dag Azam Field on Tuesday to claim the 3-2A Softball Championship for the second straight year. The win extended Floydada’s winning streak to 14.
The first inning was tied 1-1 when the Lady Winds (25-2-1, 11-0) exploded for 12-runs in the second frame to put the ballgame out of reach. Floydada had 14-hits led by leadoff hitter Clari Delafuente going 3-3 that included an inside the park home run. Marissa Obregon, Erin Trevino. Celese Wickware and Kailey Sanchez all had two hits apiece. Trevino slammed a triple, and Obregon hit a double.
Floydada was aggressive on the base paths with 15-stolen bases which pressured the Lady Jackrabbits into making eight errors.
Erin Trevino earned her 23rd win by allowing two hits, one walk and got four strikeouts. Trevino now has 172-strikeouts on the season.
Cadence Yocum hit a leadoff solo home run for Ralls in the bottom of the first to tie the game.
“The Lady Winds were focused today and were well aware of the situation of needing one win to claim the title outright. Our sticks were impressive and the base running really put pressure on the Ralls defense,” said Floydada coach Armando Morales. Morales has coached Floydada to 78-wins over the past four years which included just six games in the season shortened season in 2020 due to Covid 19. The Lady Winds have back-to-back 25 win seasons and 22-victories in 2019.
When interviewed after the game all six seniors said they were confident the Lady Winds could wrap up the championship on Tuesday, but did not forecast a 16-run victory.
Floydada and Ralls will conclude the regular season with Game 2 of their series at 6pm on Friday at Lady Winds Field. It will be Senior Night for Erin Trevino, Marissa Obregon, Kailee Sanchez, Clari Delefuente, Celese Wickware and Jazmin Coronado. KFLP 900 AM will have the radio broadcast.
