Virginia Taylor (Lockney)
Virginia Faye Taylor, age 83, passed away on April 9, 2022, in Lockney. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the South Plains Baptist Church in South Plains, Texas. Interment will follow at Gray Mule Cemetery in Floyd County. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.
Virginia was born January 8, 1939, in Lockney to J.P. and Trudie Frances (Merrell) Taylor. She attended South Plains Schools and graduated from Floydada High School with the Class of 1957. Virginia met and married the love of her life, Clifford Joe Taylor, on October 12, 1957. She was a homemaker and loved the outdoors especially birds, flowers, and her yard. Virginia was involved in many organizations in her community including the Red Hat Society, the South Plains Hobby Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, KBS Bible Study Group, and P & G Bible Study Group. She also enjoyed reciting Cowboy Poetry across Texas and New Mexico. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Athena Jr Study Club and was involved locally and statewide with the Texas Federation of Women’s Club. Her “I am an American” speech through the Texas Farm Bureau won the state and national competitions. The national competition was held in Chicago in the late 1960s. She was a member of the Floyd County Museum Board and was instrumental in compiling the Floyd County History book in 1979. She was a member of the Daughters of the Pioneers in Lubbock and a longtime member of the South Plains Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, J.P. & Trudie, and one brother, J. Ronald Taylor. Those left to cherish Virginia’s memory are her son, Gregg (Cris) Taylor of Floydada, her daughter Rise” (Mike) Ford of Lockney; five grandchildren: Tiffany Beltran (J.J.), Trinity Nevins (Kyle), Leah Barker (Jeff), Jackson Taylor, Carlyn (Regan) Boyd; Eight great-grandchildren: Felicity, Ethan, Bradley, Emery, Maddyn, Hannah, Brody, and Berner; one sister, Katie Pierce of Lubbock; two sisters-in-law: Charlotte Brock of Lockney and Willie Mae Gregg of Roby; One Aunt, Betty Wood, of Muleshoe and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family suggests memorials be made to the South Plains Baptist Church, PO Box 98, South Plains, TX 79258, or to the Floyd County Historical Museum, 105 E Missouri St, Floydada, TX 79235.
