Floydada’s One Act Play advances, students recognized

FLOYDADA – Theater students of Floydada Collegiate High School might have had a little bit of ‘Home Stage Advantage’ as their One Act Play moves on to bi-district competition later this month.

FCHS hosted UIL district One Act at the school’s performing arts center on Wednesday. Judges determined Floydada’s performance should move on to compete in Vega on March 22.

In addition to the school’s overall achievement, a number of student actors and crew were recognized for their performance. Senior Holley Monroe was named ‘Best Performer’ for the competition.

The Whirlwinds’ play, entitled ‘dirt’, is set in the dust bowl of the 1930s. It tells the story of a family of ten dealing with a series of tragedies including the loss of their farm. A community performance of the play is set for April 4 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
