Whirlwinds drop Saturday games at Lamesa

LAMESA The Floydada Whirlwinds (2-5) took on two very strong baseball teams this past Saturday to conclude the Lamesa Tournament by falling to the New Home Leopards 13-1 and 4A Seminole Indians 24-5.

New Home (7-2) unleashed a powerful attack of slapping three homeruns by Brad Emert, Zach Blizel and Alex Vitales. The Leopards also added a trio of triples and a pair of doubles. In total New Home had 13-hits.

Logan Addison pitched the first three innings of no-hit ball, gave up four walks and recorded seven strikeouts. He was relieved by Ryder Watkins in the fourth inning.

Floydada had a brief 1-0 lead over New Home in the first inning when Andres Mendoza scored from third base on a wild pitch by Addison. The Whirlwinds only hit of the game was a single by Juan Gonzales.

Things were equally tough for Floydada in the second game against 4A Seminole (9-3). The Whirlwinds took a 2-0 lead when Juan Gonzales hit a RBI triple and later scored on a sacrifice grounder by Davian Ramos. Seminole would answer with 11-runs in the bottom of the first inning and added seven more in the second frame to put the game away early.
