FLOYD COUNTY – Floyd County Treasurer Lori Morales held off predecessor Elva Martinez to claim the Republican primary Tuesday.

The only contested county-wide race in either the Republican or Democratic primaries, Martinez will now head as the lone candidate into the November general election.

In Precincts 2 & 3, Darrel Rasco has won the Republican primary over Jonathan Sustaita to replace the retiring Ed Marks as Justice of the Peace.

Numbers given to the Record show Morales had 413 votes to Martinez’s 322. Rasco had 245 votes to Sustaita’s 79. The county tells the Record those numbers do not include provisional ballots, but there are not a large enough number of those ballots to change the outcome of the votes.

As of 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott has been declared winner of the Republican primary statewide.
