FLOYD COUNTY – The second part of Genesis 3:19 teaches us about our creation with the words “for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Christians across the world will take part in a visual representation of that verse during Ash Wednesday services. A number of Floyd County churches will take part in that tradition as well.
Ash Wednesday, as tradition holds, is the first day of Lent – the 40 days of fasting and prayer before Easter. The day is signified with ashes, typically of burned palm leaves from the previous year’s Palm Sunday observances, placed on the forehead in the form of a cross.
Five churches in Floyd County are holding Ash Wednesday services:
