LOCKNEY – The quick work of the Lockney Volunteer Fire Department saved at least two houses near FM 378 on the north side of the city Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out just after noon in the 700 block of 7th street. R.C. Cortez lives across the street from where the fire started, and told the Record he grabbed his garden hose and connected it to a neighbor’s hose to get as much water on the grass as he could before the fire spread.
Cortez said a neighbor had been working on a pickup truck in the area just before the fire started. A Ford F-150 and older trailer home that Cortez said had been empty “for years” were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Floydada VFD’s ladder truck was called in to assist with extinguishing the empty trailer.
