FLOYDADA — The Whirlwinds struggled offensively, but the defense was still effective in taking a 45-24 win over the Tahoka Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Whirlwind Gym. Floydada (17-1) was without the services of two starters — Aiden Trevino and Jayson Cooper — but multiple reserve players stepped up to give quality minutes.
Floydada outscored Tahoka in every quarter and held the Bulldogs at arm’s length virtually the entire contest. Junior Abran Castillo was the leading scorer with 18 points followed by junior Luis Gonzalez with 11 and freshman Braun Hobbs with 10.
This was the final non-district ballgame for the season. The Whirlwinds will start District 4-2A play on Friday, January 14 against the New Deal Lions at Whirlwind Gym.
