FLOYDADA — The Floydada Chamber of Commerce and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to downtown Thursday night.

The chamber’s Santa on the Square kicked off at 5 p.m. at Nutthouse Designs with Mr. Claus arriving on the city’s new fire engine. Santa visited with children while Diane Alvarez of Happy State Bank distributed hot chocolate with seasonal marshmallows.

Meanwhile, outside, the Floydada Animal Shelter was selling barbecue sandwiches as a fundraiser, and vendors were set up down California Street. Under the pavilion, The Floydada Collegiate High School band performed some Christmas tunes while the Sheriff’s Office served complimentary chili and cornbread.

At dark, the Sheriff’s Office’s first lighted Christmas parade processed down California past the courthouse.
