Lady Horns have a hot start in day 1 of Shootout

LOCKNEY — Most coaches prefer a fast start in ballgames, and that is exactly what the Lady Horns gave coach Trey Bale with a 23-8 burst in the opening stanza as Lockney (13-4) cruised to a 70-42 win over the Cotton Center Elks to start play in the Lockney Shootout on Thursday at Longhorn Gym.

Lockney led 40-18 at halftime and outscored the Elks 30-24 in the final two quarters.

Junior Adiranna Villarreal was Lockney’s leading scorer with 21, while senior Gabriella Cervantes tossed in 18, and junior Mariah Ascensio contributed 10. Seynada Bernal just missed the double-figures in both scoring and rebounding with nine and eight respectively. Jaylin Reyes was the Lady Horns top rebounder with nine.
