SPUR — The Lockney Lady Horns (5-1) suffered their first defeat of the basketball season, falling to the Valley Patriots 55-40 in their first game of the Spur Tournament on Thursday. Senior Gabriella Cervantes scored a season-high 24 points in the loss.
Lockney returned to the win column in game two by knocking off the Throckmorton Greyhounds 54-40. Moriah Ascencio had another big game with a season high 24 points, plus she led the Lady Horns with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. It was her initial double-double this season. Cervantes was the second leading scorer with 18 points to give her a total of 42 points on the day.

Other Local Basketball Notes
The Lockney Longhorns will play their season opener on Saturday at Longhorn Gym against the Roosevelt Eagles. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m. This will be the debut of new Longhorn coach Kelan Verette.
The Floydada Lady Winds (2-2) will host the Anton Lady Bulldogs at Whirlwind Gym beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Lady Winds will also play two early week contests before Thanksgiving – Monday against Hart Lady Horns at Whirlwind Gym (5:30 p.m.), and Tuesday on the road against the Quanah Squaws (3 p.m.)
The Floydada Whirlwinds (1-0) will play Monday at Whirlwind Gym vs. the Hart Longhorns starting at 7 p.m.
