FLOYDADA — “The Floydada Cemetery Association needs money.”

Kyle Smith was half joking, but he says that the association is currently looking for donations to supplement its budget as the year draws close to an end.

“End of the year, if you need a donation or something, we’d like to be considered,” Smith, a member of the association’s board, told the Record.

The Floydada Cemetery Association is a non-profit organization that owns about half of the Floydada Cemetery. (The other half is owned by a local funeral home.) The association sells plots, marks, digs and covers graves, and maintains the cemetery. That care comes at a cost, Smith said.

“We’re probably going to spend $12,000 this year just mowing the grass and weed-eating,” Smith said.

Individuals or organizations wishing to donate to the Cemetery Association can mail a check to P.O. Box 444, Floydada, TX 79235 or give the donation to any association board member.
