FLOYD COUNTY, TX – The Souper Bowl of Caring is officially underway in Floyd County, and it’s more than just a competition—it’s a community-wide effort to tackle hunger and support those in need. This initiative is being led by Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors Mia Snowden of Floydada and Kaileigh Cook of Lockney, who are rallying their communities to make a difference right here at home.
This year marks the 35th Annual Souper Bowl of Caring for Texas 4-H, and Mia and Kaileigh have set a goal to collect food and monetary donations throughout January to support local hunger relief organizations. The challenge is not only a fun way to give back but also a powerful opportunity for both towns to show their generosity.
Currently, Lockney is leading with an impressive 97 points compared to Floydada’s 30 points. The rules are simple: whichever town collects the most donations will have the chance to donate 75% of the total to their town’s local hunger relief organization, while the other town will donate the remaining 25%. Floydada has claimed victory for the past three years, but this year, Lockney is determined to turn the tide!
The friendly competition is happening at Duncan Elementary in Floydada and Lockney Elementary. The challenge will run until January 31st, with the winning homerooms from each school receiving an exciting reward—an Ice Cream Party hosted by Mia and Kaileigh.
But even after the school-based competition ends, the giving doesn’t stop. Donations will still be accepted at the County Extension Office until February 10, 2025. Once all donations are tallied, the final winners—Lockney or Floydada—will be announced.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and make a real difference in the fight against hunger. We encourage everyone in Floyd County to join the fun and contribute to this great cause. Let’s show how much we care and work together to help end hunger in our community.
