FLOYDADA, TX – The following is a recent Crime Report from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

CASE UPDATE
November 11, 2024, the Subway franchise owner reported to the Sheriff’s Office that his manager stole about twenty-five thousand dollars. The crime was discovered while the franchisee was in the process of selling the business to someone else. On December 10th, 2024, Marcelino Mendoza, 43, was indicted for Theft of Property >=$2500<$30k by a Floyd County Grand Jury, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Mendoza has since been arrested.

On November 20th, 2024, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 500 Block of South 2nd Street for a traffic violation. The driver, Robert Jon Segura, 25, of Floydada, was arrested for an active warrant out of Lubbock, Texas.

November 25, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding vandalism in the 1100 block of FM 784. The complainant reported that someone had crashed into one of the porch columns in front of their house. They suspected the damage might have been caused by an accident but were unsure at the time.

November 29, 2024, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of TX 207 and Houston Street. While investigating, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. As a result, Carlos Mendez, 21, of Lubbock, was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle. A passenger, Yosmar Jimenez, 21, of Floydada, was also taken into custody for assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest after refusing to follow the officer’s order to get back in the vehicle he was riding in.

December 3rd, 2024, a deputy was dispatched to the 200 Block of East Locust Street in Lockney in response to a disturbance. The complainant reported that her ex-boyfriend had argued with her over the phone. He then arrived at her residence and forced his way through the back door. Once inside, he proceeded to strangle her. After a brief struggle, she managed to contact the police; however, the suspect had fled the scene when the officer arrived.

December 6, 2024, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a silver 2009 Kia Spectra for failing to dim its headlights when required. The deputy reported detecting the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed THC oil. Devon Wayne Warren, 26, of Lubbock, Texas, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2, with a weight of 1 to 4 grams.

December 8, 2024, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a black 2024 GMC Sierra in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Lockney for driving without lights when required. A 16-year-old juvenile driver was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after his grandfather reported the pickup as stolen.

December 8, 2024, a deputy was sent to the 400 block of Southeast 1st Street in Lockney to investigate a disturbance. A 14-year-old female juvenile was arrested for assault, causing bodily injury to a family member.

December 11, 2024, a deputy stopped a white Ford Mustang near South FM 378 and FM 37 because the driver failed to dim the headlights when required. Upon approaching the driver, the deputy observed signs that he might be under the influence of alcohol. After conducting a field sobriety test, the driver, Amos Lopez, 43, of Tulia, Texas, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

On December 16, 2024, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of US Highway 62 and FM 651 regarding a one-vehicle accident. Upon arriving at the scene and making contact with the driver, it was observed that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. After the deputies conducted a field sobriety test, the driver, Tyler Ryan Jones, 39, of Amarillo, Texas, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

December 18, 2024, a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of CR 318 and CR 95 in response to a report of criminal mischief. The complainant stated that someone had shot and killed a yearling heifer that was grazing in a cotton field. It was concluded that whoever shot the heifer must have shot it from the county road. This case is still under investigation.
