FLOYDADA, TX – For the past 15 years, Ginger Morgan has been walking up the steps of the courthouse to go to work as the Floyd County Clerk. She’ll take those steps one last time on Friday.
The former hairdresser and longtime Floydada resident recently announced her retirement, effective December 31st. However, her last day in the office is December 20th.
“I have loved serving as County Clerk for the last 15 years,” she explained to the Commissioners Court, “but it is time to turn over the reins to a new generation.”
Residents have seen numerous benefits from having Morgan in the role, especially in elections.
KeeLee Rawls recounted, “Ginger worked diligently to bring the County Wide Polling Place Program to Floyd County in 2010 and implement great things for the County Elections.” In addition, she has been involved with the County and District Clerk’s Association and the Secretary of State Election conferences.
So what happens now? For Morgan, “I plan to take full advantage of retirement, with travel, time with family, and just enjoying every minute of my new life!” For the hole left when she leaves? The Clerk’s Office will continue to operate normally until a replacement is named, says Floyd Couty Judge Marty Lucke.
“The Commissioners Court decided that the position would be filled by someone in the Clerk’s Office so that the office can continue to operate without interruption. The appointment will be for the rest of the unexpired term.”
Ironically, Ginger was appointed to the position in December 2009 following the resignation of the Floyd County Clerk at that time.
