FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Whirlwinds were three seconds from a big victory Tuesday night over their rival Hale Center Owls.
The Owls were trailing 64-62 when D.J. Hinojosa fired a shot from beyond the perimeter that fell well, leaving a stunned crowd gasping in Whirlwind Gym.
Both teams were evenly matched, and neither could build more than a two-possession lead on the night before Hale Center clinched the 65-64 win.
The Owls were led in scoring by Lionel Martinez and Aidan Baldridge, both with 19 on the night.
For the Winds, Braun Hobbs led the team and all scorers with 22 points. His 11 rebounds were two shy of Senior Logan Smith, who grabbed 13 boards in the loss.
Floydada drops to 6-6 on the season, and Hale Center improves to 6-1.
