FLOYDADA, TX—The battle of Floyd County reignites tonight as the Whirlwinds host Lockney for the 106th game of the rivalry.

Lockney lost to West Texas High 30-25 last week, while Floydada beat Tulia 27-19.

The first game was played in 1917 in Floydada, and the Whirlwinds won 12-0, albeit before either team had mascots.

Floydada leads the series record 74-30-1.

Through the 107-year history of this game, Floydada and Lockney didn’t play for only five years (1923, 1924, 1934, 1936 & 2020). The game was played twice in 1919, 1921 & 1943. The most significant margin of victory came in the 1931 match won by Floydada 83-0.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. tonight at Charlie Tyer Stadium and can be heard on 106.1 KFLP-FM and online here.
