FLOYDADA, TX – In August, volunteers responded to six calls for assistance, all but one related to grass fires.

The Floydada Fire Department’s first call of the month was for a grass fire near a structure five miles north of Sandhill.

On August 9th, an early morning alarm was triggered for a grass fire on U.S. 70, near the Floyd/Hale County line.

Three more grass fire calls came in mid-month as landowners and fire personnel attempted to remain in control of dry conditions across the county.

Last week, Floyd County Commissioners elected to instigate a county-wide burn ban due to drought and heightened fire risk.
