Crews from multiple departments responded to a grass fire outside the Floyd County Friends Unity Center on Sunday, March 20, 2022 (Ryan Crowe/FCR)

FLOYDADA, TX – July was a busy month for volunteer firefighters in Floyd County.

Dry conditions across the region contributed to a handful of grass fires, including four, for which the Floydada Fire Department provided mutual assistance.

Officials continue to stress caution when working with equipment or vehicles that could spark a grass fire. Beneficial rains earlier in the year provided good growing conditions for grass in pastures and CRP fields.
