FLOYDADA, TX – With five weeks until the 2024 Texas high school football season kickoff, Floydada head coach J.R. Compton will look to end a 43-year playoff victory drought. Though the Whirlwinds have found success during the regular season, the team has not been able to advance past the bi-district round since 1981.

This season, however, Compton will find some of the most formidable opponents may very well be within their district.

Abernathy returns to the same district as Floydada and has four trips to the State Quarterfinals in the past ten years.

New Deal has been to the playoffs every year since 2015, including an appearance in the State Championship games in 2018 (lost to Mason 44-6), three consecutive trips to Regionals, the Area round last year (lost to Sunray), and the Semi-Finals in 2022 (lost to Albany).

New Home is back in the district after four playoff appearances over the past five years.

Olton has played in the postseason for five of the past ten years, including a trip to the Area round in 2020.

Although Post has struggled over the past few years, it has played in the postseason eight of the past ten years and has made back-to-back State Championship appearances (2019 and 2020).
