FLOYDADA, TX – The Friends of the Floyd County Library met Thursday, July 19 and librarian Ren Ortiz reported that he had used funds from the Ladd & Katharine Hancher grant money intended for technology improvement to purchase a tri-chrome laser projector with a 150” screen. This will be available for use in the media/conference room upon request. Ren is excited to have the technology to host meetings for outside entities as well as utilizing it for kid’s programs within the library.

He also reported on the Summer Reading Program he has implemented for the second year in a row. Participation went from 15 last year to 41 this year. The program began June 1 and will conclude July 31. Ren & Connie Hearon, Director of the ACE after school program for FCISD worked together to coordinate the program. Students read books of their choice that can be worth up to three tickets according to length and difficulty. Tickets earned can be spent for prizes in the Summer Reading Store. Those completing 25 books will be entered in the GoldenTicket Drawing for a chance at four grand prizes: two bikes, a 32” smart TV, and a WiFi/bluetooth compatible hoverboard. The wrap up party & grand prize drawing will be held in August and all participants will have a chance to finish spending their tickets.

Our next FOL meeting will be September 19.
