Larry Rondal McCormick (Lockney)
Larry Rondal McCormick died in Paris, Texas, on May 26, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney, Texas. Graveside services will immediately follow at the Lockney Cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the care of Fry Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris, Texas.
Larry was born September 29, 1937, to Margie and Ray McCormick. He was the middle child of three sons. The family lived in the Liberty Community, where Larry walked to school in the one-room Liberty School. He often liked to tell people he was the smartest in his class, only to clarify that he was the only one in his class. Larry graduated from Lockney High School in 1955 and worked as part of the Knox Grocery store family until he began farming.
He married Ida LaJuan Henderson, the love of his life, on December 25, 1956. Larry was a Mason and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He farmed and ranched on the South Plains, Panhandle, and Northeast Texas. Larry was known to be a man of his word and often did business with a simple handshake. He never asked anything of anyone that he would not do himself. Larry enjoyed farming but thrived on ranching. He loved animals and the outdoors. He was dedicated to his family in every way and was happiest when the family gathered together in his home. Larry didn’t know how to swim but often took his family to the lake to water ski. He never snowskied, but he frequently took his family to New Mexico to ski in the winter. Larry also assisted his children in 4-H projects showing sheep and horses.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Audry, and his son Craig. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, LaJuan and his two remaining children, Bekki Beverly of Sherman, Texas and Ronnie McCormick of Dallas, Texas, his brother Bobby McCormick of Lockney, Texas and Charlene Norrell of Floydada, Texas who was his cousin but he considered her his sister. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Meghann (Ben) Ponder of Princeton, Texas; Kathryn (Luke) Keys of McKinney, Texas; Tucker (Janae) McCormick, Seth McCormick of Weinert, Texas; Abbi (Shawn) Duncan of Weinert, Texas, Lilee McCormick of Weinert, Texas, Emmalee McCormick of Haskell, Texas, and Lauren McCormick of Haskell, Texas. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Victoria Ponder of Princeton, Texas, and Leighton & Stetson Duncan of Weinert, Texas. He will be missed by many other friends and relatives.
