WASHINGTON, DC—The House Agriculture Committee passed its version of the 2024 Farm Bill late Thursday night after more than 12 hours of spirited debate. The measure awaits a date for consideration by the full House of Representatives.

Rep. G.T. Thompson (PA-15) is Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee and told All Ag News that the bill is based upon what they heard from listening sessions all across America.

If passed into law, cotton producers would see an increase in reference prices and a strengthening of crop insurance.

Much of the debate was divided on whether SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are being cut. Democrats argue that the bill would gut $30 billion from the program, while Republicans contend that no SNAP benefits will be cut; instead, recipients will see annual increases.
