Birdie Leigh Ward (Dougherty)
Birdie Leigh Ward, 99, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on March 18, 2024.
Birdie was born to James and Birdie Knight on November 23, 1924, in Nashville, TN. Birdie married Joy on June 26, 1946, in Los Angeles, CA. After they got married, they moved to Dougherty, TX, where they farmed for many years. She was a devoted housewife and mother. Later, she became a hairstylist for 20 years, investing in many people’s lives. Birdie loved music, whether it was listening or singing. She would love to perform for others at an event or in a play with her husband, Joy. Over the past eight years, she spent her days at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton, TX, where she was doted and loved.
Loved ones include daughter Cindy Ward of Lubbock, TX; granddaughters Shelby and Danny Caballero of Littlefield, TX; Amanda and Dustin White of Amarillo, TX; grandsons Tim and Lyndee Ward of Midland, TX; and Tom and Lynda Ward of Midland, TX; and 17 great-grandchildren, Madison, Nicholas, Brittney, Michael, Isabella, Timothy, Catherine, Christopher, Trinity, Jordan, Leanne, Jamie, Victoria, Tye, Chance, Adrian, and Nicholas,
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joy Glen, son Tim Ward, parents James and Birdie Knight, and Orland and Bonnie Howard.
