FLOYDADA, TX – A 16-year-old is in custody following a high-speed chase west of the city on Sunday night.
Officers from the Floydada Police Department and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of reckless driving just after 7:00 p.m. near Floydada Park.
The six-minute chase took patrol cars on dirt roads and finally ended with Sheriff Paul Raissez initiating a pit maneuver, which brought the pickup to a stop in a field on FM 784, approximately four miles west of Floydada.
The driver is charged with evading in a motor vehicle, a felony in Texas, and is currently being held at the Lubbock Youth Detention Center.
Two other occupants, also juveniles, were in the vehicle at the time but are not facing charges.
There were no injuries reported and Raissez expressed relief that all three were wearing seatbelts.
