LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney Lady Horns are preparing for a new season under new head coach Jazmin De La Rosa.
Where did you begin, and what has the journey been to get to Lockney?
“I’m from a small 1A outside of here, grew up and graduated, and was fortunate enough to return and start my career there. My brother got his first assisting coach out here, so whenever there was a transition or change, I got to meet some of the people that he got to work with, and they got me out here, and it’s been great ever since.”
How has the transition been for you as you start a new chapter here in Lockney?
“It’s been really, really nice. Everyone is very welcoming, and they know that I don’t know a lot of people, so they make it a point to come and say hi.”
What is the goal for this year’s team?
“For us, obviously, our end goal is to match or exceed what they did last year. We lost a really great group last year; most of the team were seniors who graduated last year. We have two returning this year who have been great leaders. We have a couple of seniors and juniors who are kind of the leaders of our group.”
What is your coaching philosophy, and what do you want your team to learn?
“My thing is that, at the end of the day, I want these women to go out and be great citizens in this world. I want them to be great, whoever they are, be the best that they can be, and know that they make a difference in whatever it is that they do. Outside of basketball and outside of Lockney, I want them to know that they poured themselves out here, but once they leave here, what philosophies did we teach them or what skills did they learn to go out and make great citizens?”
The Lockney Lady Horns will take on Ropesville on November 11th, with JV at 11:00 a.m. and varsity at 12:15 p.m.
