LOCKNEY, TX – Floyd County Record continues to spotlight the athletes that represent our communities, including Lockney’s Caden Pritchard.

Caden is a senior at Lockney and is the Longhorn’s left guard and defensive tackle.

Pritchard is entering his second year on the varsity team.

What is something that you have done individually that will help the team?

“I have been trying to work on being a better leader, getting everybody here and in the weight room because it all starts in the weight room, and if you don’t start in the weight room, you get nothing on the field.”

What are some of the aspects of football that you enjoy the most?

“I enjoy hitting people as I use this (football) as an opportunity to get my anger out, and second, at the end of the game, we are all brothers here (and enjoy the bond that we have).”

As a powerlifter, how does that translate into football?

“Powerlifting helps football because it helps you be more explosive and makes you stronger. It also helps out with mentality.”

Who are some of your role models or mentors that you look to?

“I would say my dad (Coach Pritchard) because even in the bad times, he would push me and tell me not to give up. There are times that I’ve wanted to quit, but he was there, telling me I’m not going to quit and I got to keep going.”

What are you looking forward to as this year’s team enters your senior year?

Last year wasn’t a really great season, but I’ve noticed all the work we put in during the summer, and we have really improved.
